The missing features wouldn't be a big deal if this was an early preview, but they were actually planning to take this thing live.

And if the wide margins are such an easy fix, then why haven't they fixed it? People have been complaining about this since the beta came out 5 months ago. And I don't mean just posting random comments about how it sucks - a lot of us actually took the time to give specific feedback, but this feedback was completely ignored.

Yeah, I miss GNAA too. Their website was much better designed than the Slashdot Beta.

Stack Exchange should just go ahead and write a Slashdot replacement, I'd be over there in a second. Unlike the trained chimps at Dice, they know how to do web design, they understand the concept of a site driven by user content, and they don't have contempt for their users.

It's a small step in the right direction. But they've mishandled this thing so badly that it'll take more than one vaguely worded post to quiet people down.

And this is what I still don't understand: Why? What was the motivation for the redesign? What problems was it supposed to solve? (And if the answer is 'to better serve ads', then you might as well tell us, because we'll find out anyway.)

I don't mean to defend fuckups, but healthcare.gov was a hugely complicated project. It had to connect millions of users with thousands of insurance companies, and it was all designed from scratch. Plus the specs were coming from the government, which meant that revising them was almost impossible.

On the flip side, Dice took a perfectly functional message board, and managed to turn it to shit.

Maybe you missed it, but we already tried that and they ignored us. Looks like screaming and throwing feces is the only option left. And if that doesn't work, we'll just leave.

I won't flame you for liking the new design, but you should realize that almost everybody disagrees with you. It's not that I don't want any change - I think there are problems with the old design, but the new one doesn't fix any of those problems, just adds about 100 new problems.

After careful consideration, I've decided FUCK THE BETA.

Yes, the trend is quite clear. Let's stay on it and see where it takes us. Who knows, by this time tomorrow, the editors might have explained the nature of dark matter, invented a better electric car battery, and brought back "Farscape". Either that, or their heads will have exploded. I see it as a win-win situation.

Hell no, we knew that for several months. What we learned today is that they're planning to promote the beta despite several months of people telling them it sucks. This is what annoys me even more than the bad design - they actually solicited our feedback, and we took the time to give it, then they completely ignored it.
